Most of the uninterrupted 18-mile bike trail along Chicago's lakefront is self-explanatory; but it can get confusing as you hit downtown, with the trail splitting into two on either side of the Chicago River, one side more nature-oriented for exploring that side of the lakefront park, the other an urban lane that runs next to vehicular traffic on the lower level of Lake Shore Drive. These nine photos show in detail how to actually get on and off this more urban lane that crosses the river.
Here: The view of the special bridge trail ending, on the north side of the river looking north. The left branch seen here will take you on a western lane running parallel to the river itself; taking the right branch will get you back on the main lakefront trail.
